“RAINBOW VARIATIONS: AI mutations,” displayed at the 4th Special Exhibition at the Color Science and Art Center, or “Collab Gallery,” is an AI work created in collaboration with the photographer, Taisuke Koyama. In the exhibit, a new form of expression was produced by teaching AI an experimental photo production method through deep learning. The work, “AI Photographer: Rainbow Mutations,” develops this experience to create further unexpected mutations through the use of artificial intelligence. In addition to the data acquired during the previous exhibition, many types of various data (e.g., foam, ripples, water droplets, multi-shots, experimental photos, and so on) have been superimposed to produce an endless number of mutations by using the black box component of a neural network. This effect is similar to how a new generation that will shape the future is formed from thousands of diverse mutants. They are produced through mutations as the descendants of a single pair of parents.
