A fairytale "Sleeping Beauty" is world-wide famous by a 1959 animated film produced by Walt Disney. The story has a long literary tradition from the 14th century romance to the brothers Grimm adaptation(1812). It tells a female initiation process. However, the character and the behavior of the male counterpart have greatly changed over the six hundred years. The role of the male character becomes more significant after the 19th century. Each narrative reflects the changing gender position and politics in the society. This presentation sheds light on the process as well as its social background and the changing values it epitomized.
